Terms of use

Effective date: [publication date] · Last updated: [publication date]

Kira Lang is a service for practising spoken language, and the person you talk to in it is an artificial intelligence. There is no account and no password: the app works from the very first launch. The Kira PRO subscription is set up, paid for, renewed and cancelled in Google Play, not with us. The service is intended for users aged 18 and over.

1. Who provides the service

The Kira Lang service is the Kira Lang app for Android and the site kiralang.app. The service is provided by: [To be filled in before publication: full name or company name, registered address, country of registration.]

The only public contact address is hello@kiralang.app. By using the app or the site you agree to these terms; if you do not agree with them, do not use the service.

2. What Kira Lang is

Kira Lang is spoken language practice in a dialogue with Kira, an AI-based conversation partner: lessons, role-play scenes and vocabulary. Kira doesn’t underline your mistakes: she repeats the phrase correctly and carries on the conversation — the way real teachers correct you.

Conversation with Kira is possible in several learning languages. The structured content — courses, the big lesson path, vocabulary and role-play scenarios — has been built for English; if you choose another language, the app says so plainly.

So that Kira can reply, the text of your message and anonymised learning context (level, interface language, the words and topics you are working on) are sent to our server. More on this in section 12 and in the privacy policy.

3. Access without sign-up

There is no account, login or password in Kira Lang. At first launch the app receives an anonymous identifier — you don’t enter anything. This identifier is shown in the app as your “Support ID” (Profile → “How it all works”, with a copy button next to it); it is the only way to find your data if you write to support.

If you clear the app’s data or reinstall it, a new identifier is issued. How this affects your subscription is in section 10, and your progress in section 12.

4. Age

The service is intended for people aged 18 and over. By using the service you confirm that you are 18 or older.

5. The replies are generated by artificial intelligence

Kira is an artificial intelligence, not a person. Replies, explanations, translations and assessments are produced by a language model: it can be wrong, invent facts and correct you incorrectly. Don’t rely on the replies for important matters, and check anything that matters yourself. Kira’s replies are not professional — medical, legal or financial — advice.

The app says plainly, right in the conversation, that the person you are talking to is an AI. Under every reply you can leave a report; reports are stored on your device and used to tune the filters.

6. Voice and microphone

Speech recognition is carried out by your phone’s system engine: only the recognised text goes to the server, no audio is sent. Recording starts only while you hold the microphone button down and never runs in the background. Replies are spoken by the system speech synthesiser. The microphone is not required: you can always write to Kira in text.

7. What is available for free and what limits apply

The free mode is permanent, not a trial:

Besides the minutes, server-side limits apply: a daily number of requests to the model, a short mandatory pause between messages and an overall daily cap for the whole service, on reaching which the service is temporarily unavailable. We set the values of these limits and they may change.

The service may be temporarily unavailable: because of limits, load, unavailability of the language model or lack of a connection.

8. The Kira PRO subscription

Kira PRO is the only paid product of the service. The subscription gives you:

“No daily limit” refers to the minutes of conversation. A very large number of requests in one day may be limited by the protection against automated requests — this doesn’t get in the way of ordinary use.

The subscription is set up, paid for and renewed through Google Play; we never see or store your card details. Weekly, monthly and yearly cycles are available — their contents are identical, only the frequency of the charges differs. Google Play shows the current price in your country’s currency before you confirm the purchase.

The subscription renews automatically until it is cancelled. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel the subscription no later than 24 hours before it starts: how to cancel.

A trial period exists only for the weekly plan. The monthly and yearly plans have no trial days: the first charge comes immediately and covers the whole cycle you chose. Your eligibility for a trial period and its length are determined by Google Play based on your Google account, and shown to you before you subscribe.

For buyers in the EEA, the statutory right of withdrawal within 14 days applies; it may be lost if you agree to start using the subscription immediately.

9. Starting and ending access

Access to PRO opens once Google confirms the payment. If the store has confirmed the payment but our server hasn’t seen the receipt yet, access is granted in advance and is withdrawn at the next reconciliation if the receipt isn’t confirmed. The term of the subscription is determined by Google’s response, not by our calculations.

Cancellation is done only in Google Play; the app has a “Manage subscription” button that opens the right screen. The period you have paid for runs to the end, and there will be no new charges. After the subscription ends, the free mode applies — access to the service does not stop. Cancelling during the trial days: there will be no charge, and access stays until the end of the trial period.

If a charge fails, Google gives a grace period — access is kept for that time; if the subscription is on hold or paused, access is suspended.

The decision about a refund is made by Google under its own rules. If a refund is made, access to PRO ends immediately rather than at the end of the paid period. We can look at the situation from our side and help you work it out, but we can’t return the money: the payment doesn’t go through us. More on this in about charges.

The document confirming payment is your Google Play order history; we keep no copy of the payment history of our own.

10. Restoring purchases and one active entitlement

The subscription is tied to the Google account it was taken out with. After reinstalling the app or clearing its data, tap “Restore purchases” — access to the service is anonymous, and a new installation won’t see the subscription by itself.

One purchase — one active access: restoring on a new device removes PRO from the previous installation. Passing the receipt to other people and sharing one subscription are not permitted.

11. Crystals

Crystals are the in-app currency. They can’t be bought with money: they are earned for lessons and for logging in each day, and the reward grows along with your day streak. Crystals are spent on word packs in the vocabulary; an unlocked pack is yours forever, including if the rules for earning them change. Crystals have no monetary value and cannot be cashed out, exchanged or transferred.

12. Your data and how progress is stored

Your progress — lessons, words, experience, streak, crystals and settings — is stored on your device. It will survive a reinstall and move to a new device only if Google backup is switched on in your phone settings; the subscription is not part of the backup and is brought back with the “Restore purchases” button.

The texts of your messages are sent to our server and on to the language model provider — without this a reply is impossible. Once the reply has been produced, the dialogue messages are not kept on the server. What stays on the server is: the PRO entitlement, subscription details, records of charges and daily counters — all tied to the anonymous identifier.

The details are in the privacy policy; how to delete your data is on the data deletion page. Deleting it doesn’t require contacting us.

13. How you may and may not use the service

The service is intended for personal, non-commercial learning. You may not:

Don’t enter personal data, passwords or payment details into the dialogue: messages are processed as learning text. If these rules are broken, access to the service may be restricted.

14. No warranties and limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is”. We don’t guarantee uninterrupted and error-free operation: as a normal matter the service may be temporarily unavailable because of limits, load or unavailability of the language model. You are responsible for the decisions you make on the basis of the model’s replies.

Our aggregate liability under these terms is limited to the amount you have actually paid for the subscription for the period in which the ground for the claim arose. This limitation does not affect consumer rights that cannot be limited under the law applicable to you.

15. Governing law and disputes

[To be filled in before publication: governing law and the procedure for resolving disputes — depends on the operator’s country of registration.]

Nothing in these terms limits consumer rights that cannot be limited under the law applicable to you.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be shown in the app before they take effect. The date of the last update is given at the top of the page.
